4. Very important! When you call the dog from the other person and the dog starts turning his head in your
direction immediately you cue
this behavior with a “YES!” which cues the dog that heading in your direction was the right guess and in turn
builds speed to you.
5. And as soon as you say the “YES!” word and the dog has actually taken one step toward you, you
should move backward a few steps
and say “good!” to them to keep them coming and this will usually build more speed as well.
6. Do Not say Come, Come,Come while the dog is on it’s way to you. This can ruin things quickly.
7.Do this exercise in different rooms, in the yard, in an enclosed school field or park.
9. You must continue to practice this in all different areas and also around things you know your dog will
struggle with such
as around other dogs etc.
10.Keep in mind that if your dog loves toys then once he understands the concept you can switch over to a
toy reward instead of food or do both.
NOTE: Dogs are different in the way they respond to things so if you feel you are doing a really good job
with your cuing, body language, and timing you may need professional help to perfect this.

The “Come” command is without question one of the most important cues you should teach your dog. Not only can the “Come” command be vital in keeping your dog from running away from you and getting lost or worse, running off into danger and possibly getting seriously hurt, but a good “come” command also can give a dog a better life.
Why? Because if the dog reliably comes back to an owner when called then the owner feels comfortable taking them to places such as open fields, beaches, even dog play areas that are not necessarily safely fenced.

8. It is Very important to do this with a 15-30 ft leash in the
beginning when out working in grassy areas where there are a
lot of smells.
When the dog is sniffing the ground you stay leash length behind
them and call them. If the Dog refuses or stalls start pulling the line
towards you while you call and when starts heading your way have a
party and reward.
1.You want to use a treat that the dog loves (not just likes).
2.If you have someone else to work with you in the beginning even better. Each
person takes treats and spreads out across a room in the house, from each other.
Then the person that the dog is not trailing or paying attention to calls the dog by
saying the dogs name first and then come (Max Come!) in a very playful excited
tone.
3.You want the dog to love the come command and be very excited about this
command for life, so do not yell this command at the dog as if it’s a demand
because this is usually a crucial mistake and kills drive.
